Our last day teaching in Lira! Peter had a busy morning at Lira referral hospital. We have spent less time here than previous trips so it was great for Peter to have the opportunity to teach diploma nurses and clinical medical officer students on paediatric, maternity and A and E wards. One of last years student who is now an intern recognised Peter and requested teaching for more students! Peter was also able to distribute the last of the equipment that we have brought; all well received!

Janet spent the morning at Aboke clinic with 6 students, teaching ultrasound. One of the students asked Janet to stay the next 6 months!

More lectures at the University for the rest of the team. Janet and Antoinette organised a revision quiz for Year 4’s in the afternoon, presenting certificates and thermometers/ watches at the end. We were very touched by the students enthusiasm and singing to us a traditional clapping song to say thank you!

For our last evening we were invited out by some of the university staff for a meal at the “Good New Hotel”. We have been very busy in the past two weeks so it was an absolute pleasure to have time to socialise with senior staff! We learnt a lot about Uganda and the health and education services. It was also very heartening to hear how much they appreciate our link.

Wifi has been down for the last two days so I am hoping we will be able to send this final blog soon. Next week the second Poole Africa Link team will be arriving in Lira to continue the training……
