And so dawned the last full day for Team one… Peter! Ally and Liv spent an energetic morning at the university. While Peter casually taught one-handed chest compressions in neonates, looking the picture of glamour in his new bling, Liv was bouncing energetically at the other end of the room, singing Nellie the Elephant with gusto to some mystified fourth years. Ally in the meantime was clutching her paediatric manikin, sobbing theatrically with worry about her child.

Back in the hospital, Frankie christened her new jazzy scrubs with yet another traumatic morning of C sections where two babies didn’t survive and neonatal resus in theatres.

Hilary managed to have some gloves on at the right time and ‘caught’ a baby born much quicker than expected as the mother delivered into a washing up bowl!

She and the VSO midwife have also set up a resuscitation area in the very busy and over crowded labour ward.

Antoinette enjoyed a general paediatric clinic supporting a junior doctor who was struggling with the clinic (having arrived too late to help the staff do all the fasting blood sugars on the diabetics). She and Peter then spent the afternoon at university teaching recognition of sick children and congenital abnormalities.

Sandy, however, had reverted to childhood and spent the morning doing papier-mâché at the CP clinic with the local OT. Watch out Blue Peter, Poole Africa Link are ready to take over!

The afternoon was spent with Team Awesome running the trauma session in the BASIC course. Liv channelled her inner Frankie and ran the trauma team scenario as the anaesthetist, while Sandy made an excellent orthopaedic surgeon, and Ally picked up the pieces, covering all the other roles.
