Back to work Sunday !

Frankie enjoyed her morning teaching a handsome surgeon and anaesthetic assistant. She seemed to be happy when we got back !
Seriously, she worked hard to cover the BASIC course content and was pleased with the level of understanding and commitment.

While Frankie was teaching the rest of the team (Ali, Liv and Sandy ) were sent to church, where we were greeted by a very large congregation. The service was long but enjoyable with lots of singing and clapping. We were then asked to stand up and introduce ourselves  and the mic was given to Sandy who told them the purpose of our visit . Liv then attempted to give them a religious greeting in Ugandan which was then translated into English! The different dialects makes it difficult to judge whether you have the right one but Liv is good at remembering some key phrases.

Next was the offering and some of the congregation gave money whilst others donated food to be auctioned – this included a live goat which behaved surprisingly well in church.

Next we were taken to the orphanage and shown around the extensive facilities by Paster Moses. It was really impressive how they support the children through not only their education but also ensure they have skills for adulthood. The ethos involved seeing them through university and or further education and they give support until they are able to care for themselves independently.

We had an absolutely wonderful time with the children and their ‘mum’s’. The kids live in houses of eight children and one house mother. We were very fortunate to be able to share lunch in separate families, giving us the chance to chat with the children and their mums. Liv enjoyed singing some Sunday school classics, while Sandy struggled to quote his favourite scripture verse! The whole village is so friendly and welcoming, and we learnt a great deal.

We’ve spent the afternoon preparing for another busy week, and impatiently waiting for the next team to arrive.

Team Trident: Antoinette, Hilary and Peter arrived safely at 6pm after nearly 30 hrs travel…now enjoying a cold beer..catch up with them tomorrow
