Friday 30th September 2016

Two of the team set off early to teach university students whose lessons began at 08 00. The session included ABC assessment and triage and included a lot of student interaction, there being 63 of them !

 
In the meantime, Frankie and Liv enjoyed a more leisurely breakfast and networked, finding a gorgeous, enthusiastic, knowledgeable Ugandan surgeon (the whole package!), to whom Frankie will be giving some ‘private tuition’ on Sunday whilst the rest of the team go to church….at least, that is what she tells us…

 
Next stop was a brief meeting with Professor Jasper, his deputy and Anna Agnes, the senior midwifery tutor at the university. The ‘Dream Team’ (Sandy and Ally) then disappeared to find an amazing feast for lunch.

 
‘Team Basic’ (Liv and Frankie) drove back to the hospital to visit the outpatient department. We met some gorgeous children, learnt some more of the local dialect (although Frankie was informed she was ‘not sharp enough’, being ‘too old’ to pick up the language!!!) and even got the chance for a bit of pathology teaching-neither of us ever having seen malaria on slides before.

 
The afternoon was spent teaching infection control on the basic course. Frankie was a little alarmed to be held hostage by one of the clinical officers until she handed over a manual for the course, but has since recovered (with the help of some cocktails).

 
The evening has been spent in going back to the market. The Elderly care division of Poole Africa Link have now gone native! We eagerly await the new scrubs….

 
We are looking forward to a much more chilled weekend after a busy week of teaching. Life is great over here, the food is delicious and ‘Team Awesome’ has had a wonderful week. We are excited to welcome the new arrivals on Sunday….can’t wait to see you!
