It was a case of divide and conquer as the team split up to teach in various departments at Lira Hospital. Further exposure to the realities of healthcare in Uganda was on the cards, with sub teams in ED, NICU and O&G. Peter “the Plumber” was setting up CPAP so intensely he was late for lunch, a fiery avocado and tomato salad.
In the afternoon it was more of the same, with mixed results in attempts to teach in the different departments.
A business dinner was in order, with several of our local colleagues joining us. Who would have guessed a fantastic Mexican restaurant would exist in Northern Uganda? A thunderstorm chaperoned us on the walk home, with post-dinner entertainment in the form of Peter literally slipping on a banana skin in the dark.
